The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh to fill the vacancy created with the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy is a superb choice who is certain to serve this nation well.

President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Brett Kavanaugh will replace Justice Anthony Kennedy in the Supreme Court, ending the hopes of Indian Americans that Amul Thapar would become the first judge from the community to make it to the top court.

Kavanaugh, 53, once clerked for Kennedy.

"As a fair legal mind, defender of the Constitution, and a judge on the D.C. Circuit, Brett Kavanaugh is prepared for a seat on the Supreme Court", Byrne posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Before Trump walked out to make his prime time announcement Monday night, a parade of conservative luminaries and Administration officials filed into the East Room of the White House to sit on gilded folding chairs set out in a wide arch around a lectern.

The conservative Judicial Crisis Network made clear Monday they consider this fight even more substantial than the one to confirm Justice Neil Gorsuch. Like Trump's first nominee a year ago, Justice Neil Gorsuch, Kavanaugh would be a young addition who could help remake the court for decades to come with rulings that could restrict abortion, expand gun rights and roll back key parts of Obamacare. So far, Trump has installed more than 20 appeals court judges and more than 16 trial court judges on the federal bench.

"And yet you have this political dilemma that stares, I think, you and Chuck Schumer really in the face as the two leaders, which is this: staying united to stop the Supreme Court pick could cost you red state senators", he said. "A judge must interpret the Constitution as written".

Alongside iPhones and iPads, Apple also released an update to bump the HomePod software version to 11.4.1. But the same Elcomsoft says the workaround it discovered back in May still works on iOS 11.4.1.

What is nearly certain - and those across the political spectrum agree - is that Kavanaugh's selection will spark a major confirmation battle in the U.S. Senate, where Republicans hold a narrow 51-49 majority and opposition Democrats say they will fight to prevent the high court from swinging further to the right.

In the 1990s Judge Kavanaugh helped his mentor, independent counsel Kenneth Starr, to investigate President Bill Clinton. Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

"Tomorrow I begin meeting with members of the Senate", he said. On abortion, Kavanaugh voted in October to delay an abortion for a teenage immigrant who was in government custody. "Trump did not move too fast in naming a nominee", said Trevor Burrus, a research fellow at the Cato Institute's Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies. "He swung to the other side on the question of gay rights and abortion, and those are the particular issues that concern those on the left".

Democrats had announced their opposition to his nomination before President Trump's announcement. But McConnell said senators should give him "the fairness, respect, and seriousness that a Supreme Court nomination ought to command".

McConnell and Trump were rewarded this year with a string of 5-4 decisions in which Gorsuch cast votes favorable to the president and the GOP.

If confirmed, the appellate judge would become the second young conservative jurist Trump has put on the top U.S. court during his first term.
