"Today is a great day for the Lakers organization and Lakers fans all over the world to welcome LeBron James, a three-time NBA Champion and four-time NBA MVP", Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson said in a statement.

The four-time MVP victor has played in the past eight NBA Finals with the Heat and the Cavs, winning three titles during that period.

"It's a big step closer to returning the Lakers to the postseason and the NBA Finals".

James, 33, has averaged 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in 1,143 career contests.

LeBron's deal with the Lakers was made official on Monday, when he penned a four-year deal worth $153.3 million with the NBA's second-most successful franchise.

James brought Cleveland its first major sports crown since 1964 when the Cavs won the 2016 NBA crown but lost three of four finals showdowns with the Golden State Warriors, falling to 3-6 for his career in the NBA Finals, and decided to make a move in hopes of rebuilding the Lakers into a victor.

The 31-year-old forward played in 61 regular season games, averaging 7.5 points and at least one steal a game. The Rockets jumped from 26th in points-per-game allowed all the way up to sixth in his one season.

They are thrilled at signing the four-time NBA MVP and the man they called the best in the sport.

Pelinka echoed that by saying "This is a historic moment for the Lakers, and we could not feel more grateful and honored".

This is the third time in eight years James has changed teams.

"Let's welcome #LAbron to LA the only way we know how!" a post on Blaze Pizza's Facebook page announcing the promotion stated.

James' arrival is indeed validation for Johnson and Pelinka, who took over the Lakers' front office in February 2017 with a specific plan to rebuild the franchise by persuading established superstars to join as free agents. The game proved to be James's final appearance for the Cavs as he signed a four-year deal with the Lakers this month.
