Cristiano Ronaldo's former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes has reacted to the news of the 33-year olds transfer to Juventus from Real Madrid, suggesting that the move is going to be tough on the Portuguese attacker.

Manchester United are now not budging over former star Cristiano Ronaldo's availability despite his wish to leave Real Madrid in the current transfer window, according to reports from Italy.

Five time Ballon d'or victor Cristiano Ronaldo has left Real Madrid and signed for Juventus.

Having scored 450 goals and won four Champions League titles at Madrid, Ronaldo was moved to address Real's fanbase after putting pen to paper on a £500,000-a-week deal at Juve.

"I can only give enormous thanks to this club, these fans and this city".

"The time has come to open a new stage in my life, that's why I asked the club to accept transferring me."

He also became the top scorer in Madrid's history with 451 goals in 438 games.

The signing broke the Serie A record, which Juventus set two years ago when it paid Napoli 90 million euros (then $99 million) for Gonzalo Higuain.

"Aside from the individual honours, the trophies won and the triumphs on the pitch during the last nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication, hard wok, responsibility and self-improvement".

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli flew out Tuesday to meet the five-time Ballon d'Or victor.

Real Madrid announced on Tuesday the departure of the global star Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus Turin.

"For Real, Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of its greatest symbols and a unique reference for the generations to come", the club said, adding that Ronaldo had asked to be transferred.

Manchester United chose not to sign Ronaldo due to their interest in his Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale. He also won four of his five Ballon d'Or awards while with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo himself got off to a brilliant start in the tournament, scoring an incredible hat-trick against Spain, but had an extremely disappointing end after being knocked out by Uruguay in the last 16.

Madrid said it had reached an agreement with Juventus after a request by Ronaldo. I feel it this way and I am asking everyone, and especially my fans, to please understand me.

Thank you infinitely once more to our fans and thanks also to Spanish football. I am leaving but this shirt, this badge and the Santiago Bernabeu I will continue to feel as something that is mine wherever I go.

It's believed new Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is keen on reshaping the Real side and has been linked with former Barcelona forward Neymar, who now plays for Paris St-Germain.
