Netflix Topples HBO in Emmy Nominations

Netflix racked up 112 nods while HBO earned 108.

Game of Thrones makes its Emmy comeback this year after last year's later season airdate saw it ineligible for consideration for the awards.

Donald Glover's "Atlanta" was the top comedy series nominee the with 16 bids, poised to take advantage of the absence this time around of three-time victor "Veep". "Atlanta" will face newcomers including "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, " "Glow" and "Barry". Others in the category include "black'ish", "Silicon Valley", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".

She earned a nomination herself for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series previous year.

"Saturday Night Live, " riding high in the ratings with its relentless pillorying of the Trump administration, was rewarded with 21 nods. It got 23 nods in 2016 but wasn't eligible previous year. The Creative Arts Awards this year are September 8-9, with the Primetime Emmy Awards set for Monday, September 17 at 8 AM ET/5 PM PT at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

And during Thursday's 2018 Emmy nominations announcement, it was revealed that it's been nominated for 22 more, including Best Drama Series, Best Directing for a Drama Series and Best Writing for a Drama Series.
