"The fact that something so blatantly mocking and disrespectful to the most powerful man in the world would be permitted to fly in the air whilst he is visiting a foreign country speaks legions to her about how her husband's presidency is viewed internationally".

Trump angered May and many Britons by tweeting inflammatory and unverified videos made by Britain First, an anti-Muslim group whose leaders have been convicted of hate crimes, and by characterizing parts of London and other cities as no-go areas because of a purported Muslim-related crime wave.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to march through London in protest against Mr Trump's visit and some of his actions during his first 18 months in power.

"It's important for us to send a powerful signal to those who are resisting and campaigning in America that we are standing in solidarity with them", Rehman said. He's not coming here for himself.

Organizers of anti-Trump rallies say they are not expecting any trouble at all - and that it would be very unlikely for any hostility to be directed at ordinary Americans.

Opposition MPS, backed by an online petition signed by almost 1.9 million people, called on May to cancel the state visit offered when she met Trump in Washington after his inauguration in January past year. "I was happy when Obama did it".
