Guess what? There's only one Blockbuster store left now

Two of the three remaining Blockbuster video locations in the US will soon close, according to an announcement made Thursday.

Kevin Daymude, general manager of Blockbuster Alaska, says the stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks will close for rentals after Sunday night. On Tuesday, the DVDs and videos at the store will be up for grabs in a liquidation firesale.

The Blockbuster stores chugging along up North - including the one that John Oliver's Last Week Tonight donated Russell Crowe-themed movie props to - are closing down.

Kevin Daymude, owner of the two Alaska stores, told the AP that the increased revenue was welcome, but that a planned lease increase on the two buildings was too much for his business to overcome.

With the shuttering of the two Alaska locations, that leaves one lone Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon, as the last holdout of the company's years-long demise. With the closure of the Alaska location, only a single store will remain in the U.S.

"I tell you, we're going to get a lot of traffic, is what I'm expecting", Daymude told the Associated Press.

"Alaska had always been - I always thought they'd outlast us", she said. Blockbuster Video officially went out of business years ago, but three stores actually managed to hold out and continue operations in the United States, until this week. We hope to see you at our stores during the closing, even if it's just to say 'Hello.' What a great time to build your media library and share some Blockbuster memories with us.

We don't know, ' she said. 'I just want my mother back. "Basically she died because of carbon monoxide", Johnson said . Why can't they get smoke detectors? The grieving husband, Johnson, is blaming the alarm systems in the garage.

"Thank you for sticking by us throughout all these years", the post continued.

The company has faced fierce competition from online video streaming services such as Netflix and filed for bankruptcy protections in 2010.

The store also posted a video of two people carrying a candle and setting it in front of the store.

In recent years, Blockbuster stores have vanished in most of the country.

In its heyday, Blockbuster had 15 stores in Alaska, Daymude said.

Texas and Alaska used to be popular locations for Blockbuster because of the poor quality of high-speed internet service and high prices.
