Astros Manager AJ Hinch will become just the second skipper in franchise history to manage an All-Star Game, joining Phil Garner, who guided the 2006 NL All-Star team. This year's MLB All-Star Game will feature at least one player representing every team; the winning team no longer guarantees its league home field advantage in the World Series, as was tradition in years' past. If he beats out Giancarlo Stanton and company, he will be joined by Betts, J.D. Martinez, Chris Sale, Mitch Moreland and Craig Kimbrel.

Players can choose not to participate in the All-Star game for various reasons, such as if they are injured or pitched in a regular season game in the days before. MLB DC-based official scorer Dennis Hetrick will have scoring duties for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
