Patch Tuesday: Here's what's new for Windows 7 and 8.1

While the spartan program has been the go-to for everyday users wanting to take down a quick note, it also often performs an important function for developers wanting to record logs or even code simpler programs. Most of the changes included in today's patch for Windows 10 are aimed at enterprises and IT admins. Although Notepad still probably won't replace your favorite third-party text editor, it is slowly gaining new features to better address user needs.

While we can finally say goodbye to infinitely long lines of text, this update on a cult classic will probably still not change the notoriously not user-friendly reputation of this app.

In addition, the find/replace dialog box will automatically search for text that is highlighted in Notepad. You can find the list of fixes in this update below. In the improved Notepad, users will also be able to display line and column numbers via word-wrap. And there are new toolbar options in the PDF Reader in Edge as of Build 17713. Feature updates are new OS versions that typically arrive twice per year, in the spring and the fall. They can also delete the last word in their document by pressing ctrl+backspace.

You can now also look up definitions for words in Reading View, Books, and PDFs, and you can also choose to have the words read aloud in order to hear the correct pronunciation. There are few performance improvements for large files.
