Aston Martin Cygnet Finally Justifies Aston’s Badge!

The 19-inch alloys - which are three inches larger than the original set - wrapped in performance rubber, and flared fenders also give the tiny auto a more aggressive look.

The Aston Martin Cygnet took the world by surprise when it went on sale in 2011, but this particular example may have just eclipsed that initial shock.

"The V8 Cygnet shows the fun side of both Aston Martin and its customers", Q by Aston Martin boss David King said in a statement.

A customer pursued the Smart Fortwo-destroyer via the "Q by Aston Martin" service, presumably with deep pockets and a twisted sense of humor.

If your headed to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, you'll see it scampering its way up the hill, too, and we gather it might well be one of the most attention-grabbing cars of the weekend. Oh no. Aston has shoehorned the 4.7-litre, 430bhp naturally aspirated V8 from the last-gen Vantage S under the barely-there bonnet of the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet, and sent drive - via a tiny torque tube - to the rear wheels. The car's top speed has also increased to a scarcely believable 170mph - some 60mph more than for the original Cygnet. The dry weight of the vehicle is rated at 1,375kg, around 500kg more than in the regular Cygnet. That's 60 miles per hour faster than the standard Cygnet's top speed.

Nineteen-inch alloys house six-piston brake callipers up front, with four-piston units at the rear - with the wheels themselves wrapped in Bridgestone tyres.

In the cabin, fixed back carbon-fibre Recaro bucket seats are found, complete with four-point harnesses. The Vantage instrument cluster has been integrated into a bespoke carbon dashboard, and the Alcantara-clad wheel is removable, just as in a proper race auto.

To fit that engine into the car's very compact proportions a new front bulkhead and transmission tunnel had to be specially fabricated from sheet metal, and the suspension and subframe are partly shared with the previous-generation Vantage that loaned its engine to the Cygnet. There are, of course, little touches of luxury inside as well, with leather pull straps on the unique carbon door cards and two USB ports alongside the bespoke controls for the air conditioning.

And now they will have the opportunity of rallying behind one team that represents France in all of its diversity. So across France on Sunday there will be hundreds of thousands of people rooting for their heros.
