Amazon back up as usual, says sales rise despite Prime Day crashes

Products for the kitchen seemed particularly popular with over 300,000 Instant Pots being sold. Once those issues were ironed out though, it's been smooth sailing with nothing standing between shoppers and the killer Prime Day deals they had been waiting for.

Deals on Prime Day are not available to everyone.

Whatever the sales tally may be, to Amazon, sales are only a secondary goal during that one-day event.

Amazon says this year's Prime Day was the " biggest global shopping event in Amazon history", with consumers purchasing more than 100 million products. This year, Amazon's 36-hour event beat out the previous Prime Days, Cyber Monday, and Black Friday in terms of total sales.

BACK TO SCHOOL: The company is making a big push in school supplies.

Last year, Amazon brought in an estimated $1 billion in sales on it's third-annual Prime Day.

Alongside the ability to shop the Prime Day sale, Prime subscribers receive unlimited same day delivery on thousands of eligible items as well as a vast selection of movies, shows and music to browse and enjoy through Prime Music and Prime Video.

Amazon's site crashed on Wednesday across the United States and some parts of the UK, leaving shoppers unable to make their purchases.

The technical glitches lasted for at least two hours and was likely exacerbated by excessive demand and traffic volume, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Mahaney said.
