Joaquin Phoenix's Joker set to drive movie-goers insane in 2019

"Joker" is being directed by "The Hangover" helmer Todd Phillips with a script from Scott Silver ('8 Mile, ' "The Fighter"). Details about the film are still largely being kept under wraps, but THR says that if Beetz officially signs on, she "would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become" The Joker.

With the production to begin in September, Emma Tillinger Koskoff is selected as the film's producer.

The only DC-related movie I've been stoked about in, like, 20 years is about to get even better.

Jared Leto played the most recent incarnation of the character in 2016's Suicide Squad.

We won't have long to find out; the movie is due in theaters in a little over a year.

Budgeted at a relatively modest $55 million, the Joker will take a darker approach than the DC Extended Universe films centered around Justice League. As previously reported, the clearly-going-to-be-great Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix and is described by Warner an "exploration of a man disregarded by society".
