During a press conference after the meeting, Trump said Putin had denied that Russian Federation interfered with the 2016 presidential election, and Trump believed him - despite the fact Trump's own intelligence agencies agree Russian Federation was behind hacking attacks and a social media propaganda campaign in Trump's favor.

U.S. lawmakers are calling for a court demand to be issued for the notes of the USA translator who accompanied Mr Trump to his two-hour meeting with Mr Putin.

Trump partially walked the remark back on Tuesday, saying that he accepts the findings of US investigators, while also saying that other countries might have been involved in the election meddling.

United States intelligence officials have said Russian election interference efforts are continuing and now target the upcoming congressional elections in November.

Surprisingly, considering her natural charisma and virtuosic way with words, Sanders managed to make things worse, because every Trump-Russia controversy has another Trump-Russia controversy inside.

Leahy said there is a desire to improve relations with Russian Federation - an aim Trump boasted he advanced through the meeting. "Just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country", Trump said to CBS News.

Trump met with Russian president Vladimir Putin on Monday in Helsinki for a personal summit between the two leaders. It could be other people, also. How did Trump answer that question?

"The meeting between President Putin and myself was a great success, except in the Fake News Media", the 72-year-old USA leader tweeted. "There's a lot of people out there".

Putin slams US forces ready to 'sacrifice' Russia-US ties
It presumably would take place at the White House but Ms Sanders did not say where the pair would meet. It was Congress's first formal rebuke of Mr Trump's actions from the summit and its aftermath.

Meanwhile, speaking at Cabinet meeting Wednesday, Trump touted his European trip - which included meetings at North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki - as a "tremendous success". Trump was roundly criticized for that news conference Monday in which he appeared to go along with Putin's claim that Russian Federation did not interfere in the 2016 election. Not only did Putin denied the knowledge of the names of the victims, he also blamed the United Kingdom for the attack. He's been doing a very good job.

When asked whether there was a recording of the Trump-Putin meeting, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said "I'm not aware of one", and referred further questions to the State Department. They would rather go to war than see this.

On Twitter, Mr Trump said his critics were suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome".

The president told a television interview that he has "tremendous faith" in Dan Coats, director of national intelligence, and that he would "accept" his conclusions on Russian involvement.

The day after he tried to quiet a political uproar over his failure to confront Russian President Vladimir Putin during their Helsinki summit for Moscow's 2016 US election meddling, Trump adopted his usual defiant posture and dismissed assessments of Russia from the intelligence community.

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer said Trump needed to wake up to Russia's efforts to interfere in American elections.

Mr Schumer said: "We will work to protect our security".

"I think it was a strong news conference". He also said he has faith in US intelligence agencies. Montenegro is a tiny country with very strong people.
