Tax Free Weekend will save Ohioans millions

As a new school year nears, three of the four-states will be participating in tax-free weekend this weekend.

Heads up, back-to-school shoppers, the 2018 tax-free weekend is coming up fast.

It's Back to School season on the First Coast and parents will have the opportunity to save on school supplies this weekend.

In both states, you will not pay state sales tax on back-to-school gear.

Missouri's sales tax holiday weekend is just days away.

The tax exemption doesn't apply to cellphones and cases, game consoles, digital cameras, TVs, some sports equipment, textbooks and art supplies like paint and sketchpads.

Back in January, Walker stopped at the La Crosse Airport, holding a Spider-Man backpack touting the sales tax holiday, along with the recently completed $100 per child tax credit - which pundits also called an election gimmick.

"Due to sound fiscal management and a strong economy, the state had nearly a $400 million budget surplus", said Department of Revenue Secretary Richard Chandler in a statement last week.

Chris English, the executive director for the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce, encourages people to stay local and explained that, for every dollar spent, 70 cents stays in the county and for every $100 spent $75 stays in the county.

Qualifying Energy Star or WaterSense products (must be purchased for noncommercial or personal use): $2,500 or less per item. Senate Bill 226 has established the tax-free weekend as a permanent day.
