Tim Allen's character on 'Last Man Standing' won't be talking about Trump

Barr's series, in which the star's support for Trump was mirrored by her character, was cancelled by ABC after one hit season when Barr posted a racist tweet about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

"Whatever got in her head isn't the Roseanne I know".

At the Television Critics Association's 2018 summer tour Fox's CEOs, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, had a frank discussion about Last Man Standing's new life on Fox, how Roseanne's popularity influenced Fox's decision to pick up the series, and whether or not Tim Allen's character is a Trump supporter.

"I've been a comedian for 38 years and I've never seen it, like Lenny Bruce said at the Purple Onion, 'We've gone backwards.' There are things you can't say", he added. There's things you can't say, there's things you shouldn't say.

In turn, Trump Jr. has said he took the meeting because he was told Veselnitskaya had dirt on Clinton, but it never materialized. Joaquin Castro (D-Tx.) implied that Trump's tweets were because the investigation was "leading closer" to the president.

The "Home Improvement" icon said that although Barr's tweet was not consistent with "the Roseanne" that he used to know, he also questioned who "makes up" the rules on what a comedian should or shouldn't say and branded the current climate a "dangerous" environment. And as a standup comic, it's a risky position to be in because I like pushing buttons. I don't really believe it was a political decision. "I think Mike's background is as a conservative Republican and those are his ideals". I thought it was done very poorly, that's my point of view. "This guy's a practical guy... if it's helping his business, I think he's probably pro-Trump".

Though Allen revealed that ABC executives and Disney CEO Bob Iger congratulated him on Last Man Standing's Fox renewal, he doesn't think the show's original network handled its cancelation well. "Whatever's good for his business and good for the state of Colorado or any policies that he does he's going to go with". "We just think it's a really amusing show" with general appeal. Allen said in a statement.

"The character himself, I don't think we're going to address [Trump] one way or another".

"Last Man Standing" Season 7 premieres on FOX September 28th. "We consider ourselves a family show with a traditional character at the centre". "Well, just goes to show you - a lot can happen in a year". "You're allowed to disagree in this family, but at the end of the day that can't separate us as a family".
