In its various guises, Chelsea have won just four of their 12 Community Shield games they've played and City's record of four wins from ten is only marginally better.

City made a positive start, Leroy Sane firing wide after good work by Bernard Mendy down the left, while new signing Riyad Mahrez smacked a free kick into the wall following a foul on Bernardo Silva.

Who will come out on top in the battle of the managers Maurizio Sarri or Josep Guardiola?

Some of their lethargy going forward could be put down to the heat, which made it hard for both sides to sustain any sort of tempo. It has been a pre-season interrupted by the World Cup for City, who had more players in Russian Federation than any other club, but none of the sharpness was missing in the victory over Chelsea.

Guardiola was left blown away by the performance of Bernardo, however, who he believes stepped up when fielded in a more central position as a result of David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne being absent from the squad.

Three weeks after the World Cup finished, the Premier League champions opened the new season by collecting more silverware.

Chelsea have signed just one player this summer who is likely to be directly involved in the first-team - that's Jorginho. The former Leicester winger played 68 minutes against Chelsea but will take time to settle in the side. Most of City's attacks came down Chelsea's left-hand side.

Manchester City ran out 2-0 winners over Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The season curtain-raiser went the way of last season's Premier League champions, with Sergio Aguero striking either side of half-time in a win far more comfortable than the 2-0 scoreline suggests. Guardiola's plan to put consistent pressure on the 26-year-old seemed to work, as the Blues seemed to miss the services of World Cup victor, N'Golo Kante.

One of Chelsea's most consistent performers in Azpilicueta could not be overlooked, so he takes up the position at left-back despite largely featuring on the right side of defence - but he's that good he can cover nearly all positions across the back line.

"In the next week we have a friendly match again (against Lyon) and I prefer in this moment to stay on the pitch with the players only for training". With him scoring goals City look formidable as they embark on their title defence.

And asked after Sunday's game how much time he would need to implement his tactics at Chelsea, Sarri could only say, "I don't know how long it will take". He was last season.

"I think it's good news for us for the season".

It was Aguero's 200th City goal - making the Argentina striker the first player to reach that milestone for the Eastlands outfit.
