The body was spotted in the water of the East River under the Brooklyn Bridge by a family who had travelled from Oklahoma to NY for a holiday.

The two witnesses separately called 911 after it was reported that the baby was discovered in the waters off lower Manhattan at about 4 p.m. Sunday, sources said.

He was wearing only a diaper and was in shallow water near the Manhattan shoreline.

The parents have not been found.

The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 8-month-old was unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the embankment on the edge of the East River near Dover Street and South Street under the Brooklyn Bridge.

Her husband Monte called emergency services before reaching into the water to retrieve the boy.

Officials want to know: How long was the boy in the water before an Oklahoma family spotted him Sunday afternoon?

An officer climbed a safety railing and brought the boy onto a walkway, where police attempted CPR as they waited for EMS to respond to the scene.

She took pictures and shot video at the scene and told the Times she hopes the images can help the police identify the baby.
