"Like any big club, they need some silverware - in his first season at Old Trafford, 2016-17, Mourinho won two trophies - the League Cup and Europa League - but he won nothing last season".

United's boss, about to begin his third season at the helm at Old Trafford, has cut a disgruntled figure during the summer, apparently unhappy with the club's transfer window activity.

However, despite links to numerous targets, United are yet to reinforce.

Bayern Munich defender, Jerome Boateng, decided against joining Manchester United because he does not think they can win the Champions League this season, according to Sky sources in Germany.

"I'm not confident, I'm not confident and the market closes today so is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed".

"I'm not confident", he said.

After securing the signatures of Brazilian worldwide midfielder Fred and Portuguese teenage full-back Diogo Dalot early in the window, strengthening his centre-back options has been Mourinho's priority. Mourinho also has selection problems for the Leicester game, with Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Dalot ruled out because of injuries and Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini not considered fully fit after being given extra time off to recover from the World Cup. We go with everything we have in that first match.

"I can understand some speculation about our player because he has good attributes, but I am happy to keep him and hopefully start a great season".

Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones, and Victor Lindelöf were all praised by Mourinho for cutting short their holidays to return to training and be in the frame to play a part tomorrow. The tactics to be changed in Championship Manager you can just press a button.
