Baker Mayfield shines during his Browns debut

They kick off the 2018 preseason with their first game Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Barkley managed only 4 yards on his next four carries before his night was over, but the message was clear: The Giants' dynamic skill group officially has another explosive playmaker to help revive Eli Manning and one of the NFL's more disappointing offenses in 2017.

Taylor has done more to earn the job than Mayfield in his first offseason in Cleveland, including being a seasoned leader who just helped another National Football League team make the playoffs - something with which Mayfield can't compete. Njoku caught a seam route from Taylor for the first touchdown and was the beneficiary of Mayfield extending a play from 10 yards out. Barkley was pushed out of bounds after rushing for 39 yards.

While that was all well and good, Mayfield's showcase came after Taylor completed all of his pass attempts (5 for 5, 99 yards) in posting a flawless passer rating (158.3) and had the more impressive TD connection with Njoku.

Callaway, the Browns' fourth-round pick, played despite being cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license.

Arsenal vs Manchester City Preview
As Southampton aim to put a disappointing 2017/18 season behind them, the acquisition of an England worldwide forward would have been a massive boost.

Mayfield calmly stepped up in the pocket and delivered a low but catchable ball to WR C.J. Board over the middle for a fresh set of downs. However, in his second series on the field, Mayfield connected with tight end David Njoku for a short touchdown pass. Let's take a look at three big instant reactions.

QB controversy in Cleveland?

Cleveland coach Hue Jackson said Mayfield's debut success didn't surprise him.

It's only one preseason game, but there were plenty of reasons to be hopeful.
