The former Brazil worldwide was reportedly rushed to the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza on Friday evening after contracting pneumonia.

Respected island daily, Diario de Ibiza, said he had asked for a transfer to a private hospital called Clinica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, just before midnight on Friday.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid player remains in intensive care and but was "evolving favourably", unnamed hospital sources told the newspaper.

Ronaldo, who was named FIFA's world player of the year three times prior to his retirement from football in 2011, is a regular visitor to Ibiza, where he owns a house. Tissue swells, and it can cause coughing and breathing difficulties.

The book also says that there are tapes of Trump saying these slurs, but was never able to get a hold of them. The White House responded by slamming the book and its author and chastising the press for writing about it.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid star was spending a few days on holiday on the island of Ibiza when he went to the hospital at around 18:30 in the afternoon because he was suffering from chest pains.

Ronaldo, whose full name is Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima, rose to fame for his exploits as a striker for many of Europe's top clubs, as well as the Brazilian national team.

In his latter years he battled with overweight because of a thyroid problem.

It can be life-threatening, especially among the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. He won the Golden Ball at the 1998 World Cup and the Golden Boot four tears later as the Selecao triumphed.
