La Liga gaints Sevilla have threatened to boycott their Super Cup encounter against Barcelona on Sunday if they name more than three non-European Union players for the match.

Both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, who were born in South America, already have European citizenship.

Suarez had a golden chance to level the scores late in the first period when he found space inside the box, but the Uruguay global missed the far post as Sevilla kept their one-goal lead in tact. The 21-year-old France winger stunned Sevilla's defense with a right-footed shot that hit the underside of the crossbar in the 78th minute.

Lionel MESSI broke another FC Barcelona record while Emiliano SALA scored. Sevilla defended well and kept their shape but they also had their chances.

The Spanish Super Cup preceeds every La Liga opener and the match it is between La Liga champions against the Copa del Rey winners, but since Barcelona won the domestic double last season, Sevilla qualify as Copa del Rey runners-up.

Barcelona have taken part in nine of the last 10 Super Cups, but this was the first to take place over just one leg and in a foreign country.

Spanish club Sevilla have stated that they could withdraw from tonight's Spanish Cup final against Barcelona over an interpretation of the rules surrounding the competition.
