US President Donald Trump once again channels his anger on the Russian probe through Twitter.

On Saturday evening, McGahn's lawyer confirmed the White House counsel had cooperated with Mueller's team. The paper said McGahn was motivated in part by fear that the president might set him up to be held responsible.

The report by The Times also reignited a debate about whether Trump had been given bad advice by his former lawyers Dowd and Ty Cobb to allow full cooperation with Mueller's team, including by waiving attorney-client privilege.

Quinn went on to say, "I think one of the really serious implications of this whole thing is that others are standing by-they see that Don McGahn went in and talked to the special counsel".

"I can't imagine that McGahn would still be White House counsel if he had produced any damaging information", said Mark Corallo, a former spokesman for the president's legal team.

Trump objected and insisted that McGahn would never "rat" on the president as John Dean had in the 1970s.

Meanwhile Rudy Giuliani, Trump's lead attorney in the ongoing probe, explained, during his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" yesterday, that he won't let Mueller rush Trump into testifying because he doesn't want investigators to trap the president in a lie.

CNN, citing two people familiar with the president's thinking, reported on Monday that Trump was upset after learning about the discussions McGahn had with Mueller's team.

The CNN report comes just days after the New York Times reported that McGahn discussed with Mueller's team accounts of multiple episodes at the center of Mueller's probe into possible obstruction of justice by the president.

The former FBI director James Comey (fired by Trump in an event looked at by Mueller regarding potential obstruction of justice), fired deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe and fired FBI agent Peter Strzok are among those reported under threat of similar treatment.

As he has done nearly daily on Twitter, Trump railed against the probe in the Oval Office interview with Reuters, repeatedly calling it a disgrace and arguing that Mueller and other members of his team were biased. Critics of the president have recently compared his decision to target the security clearances of critics and those involved in the Russian Federation investigation to the "enemies list" created by the Nixon White House to keep track of political opponents they meant to target with punitive measures.

"Truth is truth", interrupted moderator Chuck Todd, to which Giuliani responded: "No, it isn't truth".
