In addition, Daimler, betting on Mercedes-Benz brand and reputation for luxury cars, plans to offer 10 new fully electric cars in the automotive market by 2022. The front motor is geared toward range economy, while the rear motor optimizes performance; the EQC is created to rely on the front motor for normal cruising, shifting power continuously in real time based on the terrain, load, and needs of the moment. As for driving range, we're expecting around 250 miles per charge.

The EQC follows a similar format to the all-wheel drive Tesla and Jaguar with an electric motor powering each axle.

Launched during a function at the Artipelag art museum in Stockholm, Sweden, the fully-electric EQC Model X poses a fresh challenge to Tesla.

A teaser video shared over at Express UK revealed the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV. With the fastest charging systems, the EQC can go from 10% battery to 80% battery in roughly 40 minutes. The EQC is a five-seater SUV and it is based on a copiously reworked version of the GLC's platform. EQ stands for Electric Intelligence, and will be applied to future electric models.

The company meant to invest 10 billion euros ($12 billion) in its electric-vehicle push but has ended up spending "more than that", he said, without specifying figures.

When Mercedes do bring the EQC to Australia, they will be up against other electric SUVs, particularly the Jaguar I-Pace which will be available in Australia from November this year.

Four dead including gunman after Cincinnati bank shooting
The shooting was "clearly an act of grotesque violence", and should "frighten all", said Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley . Witnesses at the scene have meanwhile recounted the morning's terror as they heard the gunman firing multiple shots.

When Tesla first launched the Roadster, it proved that it could build a world-class electric vehicle (EV) with a realistic driving range and titillating performance. We have details and gallery of the new SUV, the first of offering in the automaker's EQ brand.

The EQC softens its higher-riding proportions with sporty curves and a distinctive full-width rear light, while the interior resembles that of the Mercedes C-Class - a reminder of economies of scale that electric-only Tesla can not match.

"There's no question that Mercedes as a brand is a premium, luxury brand; albeit with a very wide production portfolio going all the way from the A-Class to our S-Class flagship", Kallenius says.

We won't know about the interior warmth until its late 2019 delivery for model year 2020.

Audi has yet to reveal its e-tron electric SUV in full but it has started production of the mid-size zero-emission vehicle at its factory in Belgium.
