Serena Williams fires back at chair umpire after receiving coaching violation

And so Williams continued to berate the umpire even more about the first warning about cheating. During the U.S. Open, a female player, Alize Cornet, was incorrectly admonished by a chair umpire for changing her shirt during a match, which is allowed - and which men do all the time.

A surreal scene enveloped the U.S. Open finals on Saturday, as an outburst from Serena Williams and a questionable game penalty from a chair umpire were the talk of the tennis world rather than Naomi Osaka's first Grand Slam title. Osaka said. "Everyone knows this". Everyone knows this: It's on the commercials, it's everywhere. "I have a daughter and I stand for what's right for her". So for me, I'm always going to remember the Serena that I love. I mean, hopefully I won't play like that again. "Every time I step out on this court I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to play this sport". Osaka won 6-3, 6-2, but both players know there's not much to take from the match given the timing. She missed the U.S. Open a year ago, because her daughter, Olympia, was born during the tournament.

But many viewers couldn't help but take to social media to vent their frustrations at Williams' handling of the chaotic situation.

She was handed a code violation for coaching, a penalty point for racquet abuse and a game penalty for calling umpire Carlos Ramos a "liar and a thief" and insisting "you owe me an apology".

The WTA said Williams and U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka both have "great integrity". Three times she was penalize, as you say. "She was really nice to me at the net and on the podium".

She will turn 37 on September 26, unsure when she'll fully get back to the player she was before her health scares.

Value of Nike's Exposure From Kaepernick Ad Up to $163 Million
The move was celebrated by progressives and vilified by conservatives (including President Donald Trump ) in the United States. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016 and is suing the league, claiming owners colluded to keep him out of football.

Osaka's development, especially her defensive abilities and court sense, has come under the tutelage of Sascha Bajin, who formerly worked as a hitting partner for Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. She briefly disputed that ruling, saying cheating "is the one thing Ive never done, ever". I don't even (normally) call for on-court coaching. "I think thats the lesson we can all learn from this".

"And when I turned around, it was 5-3, so I was a little bit confused".

Keys - uncharacteristically struggling on serve - had earned six break points chances without converting and that deflated the American, who was eventually swept aside by Osaka in the opening set.

Serena Williams has won 23 majors, while Naomi Osaka had never been beyond the third round before this year. She's picking up major brand deals, too: Osaka has appeared in ads for Adidas and is sponsored by Japanese TV station WOWOW and Cup Noodles maker Nissin. I colored it and everything.

Asked in her press conference what she would have done differently in hindsight, Williams became increasingly emotional as she said: "I can't sit here and say I wouldn't say he's a thief, because I thought he took a game from me".

She beat Williams in their first meeting, at the Miami Open earlier this year, and she proved it wasn't a fluke this time around.
