The Hollywood Reporter write that Henry, who has played Superman in three films, can't commit to a planned cameo in Shazam! and the studio is now also reportedly putting a stop to any future appearances in the franchise.

The eight-episode adaptation of the best-selling medieval fantasy book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski centre on Cavill's character Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a "Witcher". Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe is ripping at the seams and Twitter has taken notice.

Following Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, Cavill was in talks to cameo in the upcoming Shazam! Henry Cavill is a talented actor, but he's a bit too old to play Superbaby (I have a sinking fear that that is an actual thing somewhere in a Superman comic). " This means that Cavill and Ben Affleck are both gone, as Affleck isn't likely to return for Matt Reeves' The Batman".

"THR added: "'There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work, ' says the studio insider.

Shaw heading back to Man Utd after England concussion
The outpouring of support has been pretty touching, with Spain centre-back Sergio Ramos tweeting a get-well message to Shaw . Marcus Rashford's opener was offset by goals from Saúl Ñíguez and Rodrigo to give Spain a 2-1 away win over England.

The Hollywood Reporter list several factors for the decision - Warner's Bros current focus is believed to be on a Supergirl movie, and there are now no plans for another Superman movie at this time.

There is also the issue of the direction of the DC Universe. If Cavill is out, it looks like the two founding pillars of Warner Bros' DCEU might be leaving crimefighting behind.

According to the original DC Comics, Supergirl would be a teen in her origin story meaning at that time, Superman (aka Kal-El) would only be an infant.
