On the basis of her complaint, the Kuravilangad police registered Crime No. 746 of 2018 of Kuruvilangad Police for offences punishable under Sections 342, 376 (2)(k) and (n), 377, and 506 (I) IPC. "The NCW has already taken up the matter and we will write to DGP demanding strict action against him". Before the protests, which have been unfolding for two days, take on a life and velocity of their own, the Kerala government should hasten the due process in the matter.

"I condemn such disgusting statements made by the MLA".

"I met the nun in person, who was in a deep trauma". On that bishop, I have written to the Home Ministry as the Punjab government and Kerala police have not done anything.

It was in June, the woman alleged that Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Jalandhar had sexually abused her several times between 2014 to 2016. In 1990, two nuns were raped in the course of a robbery at a church in Gajraula, Uttar Pradesh, the case received global attention, but the trial turned into a travesty of justice when the police tried to establish that the suspects were in custody at the time when the crime was committed.

Meanwhile, the protest fast, called by the Joint Christian Council here to put pressure on the government to act against the accused bishop, entered the third day.

In a first, five nuns took part in a protest near Kerala High Court on September 8 to get justice for their colleague, a fellow nun, who was allegedly raped by Bishop Father Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar.

The Missionaries of Jesus sister has also complained of harassment - including multiple death threats - since going public with her complaint against Mulakkal.

Earlier, it was revealed that the accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal committed unnatural offence and committed rape repeatedly on the nun against her will.

"Complete the probe in a time bound manner and convince the people of the facts about the case", he said.
