Apple Inc introduced its largest-ever iPhone and a watch that detects heart problems on Wednesday in an attempt to get customers to upgrade to more expensive devices in the face of stagnant global demand for smartphones.

The ECG feature on Apple Watch will read electrical heart impulses in your fingertip via the Digital Crown and through the back of the watch, via "an ultrathin chromium silicon carbon nitride layer applied to the sapphire crystal". With all new sensors, the watch can also detect when you accidentally fall.

The new Watch line starts at US$399 ($519 in Canada), Apple said, compared with the US$329 starting price of last year's model.

In a much-awaited and live-streamed event at its Cupertino, California, headquarters on Wednesday, September 12, Apple revealed several new albeit familiar products. The software features updates for the workout tool on the watch, the ability to listen to podcasts while exercising, and a raft of changes to notifications to try to limit the information overload wearers can suffer.

The Watch's own heart is a new system-in-package (which Apple confusingly refers to as a "silicon-in-package" chip) called the S4.

Also involved are two officials from the conference, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez and Monsignor Brian Bransfield. Wuerl can ask to step down, but only the pope can accept the resignation of an archbishop.

Apple has also been working on expanded health sensors, which now appear on the new Apple Watch.

It can also detect falls and will alert emergency services if it fails to detect movement 10 minutes after one has occurred. The Series 4 also has a next-gen accelerometer and gyroscope with up to 2x dynamic range and up to 32 g-forces. The Apple Watch Nike+ experience is also available through Series 4 and there's a reflective woven loop. It will be available for pre-order starting this Friday and will be widely available on September 17th. Smartwatches on competing platforms, such as Wear OS and Samsung's new Tizen-based Galaxy Watch, have embraced the traditional circular watch aesthetic.

The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with a new processor as well. In other words, a Series 4 display should look as sharp as one on a Series 3 or a Series 2 model, more or less. Both devices will come in silver, gold and space grey aluminum, and gold, silver and space black stainless steel. The GPS, non-cellular 40mm versions start at $599; 44mm versions start at $649. This feature will be reaching to United States customers later this year followed by a wider rollout.

Like the previous Apple Watch, battery life is claimed to be 18 hours, but a charge should last longer for workouts and running than before: 6 hours with Global Positioning System. Following lots of spiel about how Apple Watch has "redefined what a watch can do for you", Apple announced that they are taking the Apple Watch "to the next level" by unveiling Apple Watch 4.

To be extra clear, the Apple Watch Series 4 is created to work with any existing wristbands.
