You may find nothing amusing about a bunch of conflicting reports, half-ass denials, and Henry Cavill listening to dogs sing him a song while holding a Superman action figure and staring down a camera.

During a recent investor conference, WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey hinted that a change was brewing in the DC extended universe.

Warner Bros. has since issued a statement in response to the reports, adopting the classic "nothing to see here" approach while stating their relationship with Cavill is still intact. THR reports that negotiations broke down between Cavill and Warner Bros. over a cameo in next year's "Shazam!" due to scheduling conflicts, and the " door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances".

The studio's most successful effort has been Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, who will return in a sequel in 2019.

Instead, Warner Bros.is shifting its attention to developing a Supergirl movie.

The team also waived receiver Chad Hansen , whom they had claimed on waivers on September 2 from the New York Jets . The Michigan State product spent his first three seasons in the National Football League with the Denver Broncos.

Henry Cavill is out as Superman. The studio had reportedly been in talks with Cavill over a Superman cameo in Shazam!

The report also quoted a studio source that said Warner Bros. would likely not make another Superman movie for several years. Cavill recently signed up for Netflix's big budget, 8-part adaptation of The Witcher making him unavailable to play Superman.

Those were followed up with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), all featuring Cavill and all box-office blunders relative to rival studio Marvel's string of blockbusters.

Supergirl could take her cousin's place in the League's ranks, though there are also rumors that DC was considering recasting the Superman role with Michael B. Jordan (please oh please let that be true).

Henry Cavill is a talented actor, but he's a bit too old to play Superbaby (I have a sinking fear that that is an actual thing somewhere in a Superman comic).
