Here's what the DC region can expect from Hurricane Florence

With winds of 125 mph and a span of hundreds of miles, Hurricane Florence is already one of the largest and strongest hurricanes ever to threaten the East Coast. State officials have said the inmates are safer in the prison than they would be in an evacuation. "We are ready for the big one that is coming!"

U.S. officials issued a hurricane warning for more than 300 miles of coastline as more than 1.5 million people were told to evacuate.

The lingering storm could bring days of heavy rains, which could spark intense floods from SC to Virginia.

Maryland, though, could be spared the catastrophic flooding thought possible in recent days.

"This is shaping up to be a very unsafe scenario, as Florence nears our coast and stalls, unprecedented, and life-threatening flooding may unfold", the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, wrote Wednesday.

"This is not going to be a glancing blow", Byard said, warning of power outages, road closures, infrastructure damage and potential loss of life.

On another barrier island just below the Bogue Banks, Steve Harrigan reported live from North Topsail Beach, where visitors and residents were largely heeding warnings from Gov. Roy Cooper (D-N.C.) to evacuate.

In Virginia, 245,000 coastal residents were ordered to evacuate.

In a separate tweet, Trump warned that the storm was "looking even bigger than anticipated".
