Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez quickly separated after weigh-in for middleweight title rematch

For their first bout a year ago, Alvarez earned a guaranteed purse of $5 million while Golovkin made $3 million. Then a scheduled rematch in May was canceled when Alvarez failed two voluntary Anti-Doping Association drug tests for the banned performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol.

For Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) to hand Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) the first blemish of his career, he's going to need to do three things.

"After the first fight I said, "thank you for the fight, it was a great fight".

Members of both entourages quickly got between the two fighters to head off a physical confrontation after Alvarez appeared to rush towards Golovkin, who didn't flinch.

"Those are the excuses that they are making because of what is coming on Saturday, which is a loss for them".

Golovkin has - mostly through his trainer - tried to goad Alvarez into taking more chances in the rematch, claiming the Mexican star ran in the first fight. "Maybe they believe what they say, maybe it is to get me mad - but it has worked".

The context in the build-up to this bout has seemingly altered the opinions of both fighters, who took a much more amicable approach to their first encounter, and Golovkin recognized as much. "I know it's going to be a tough fight".

In North Carolina, Cooper says , "2,800 soldiers will be on active duty, joined by even more on standby". The only exception was Edisto Beach - that and other areas to the north remain under evacuation orders.

Yet while Alvarez was able to frustrate Golovkin, he did little in the way of meaningful damage.

The two largest bets on the fight at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas as of Friday afternoon - $20,000 and $18,000 - were both on Alvarez, driving the price on the underdog to as low as +115 at one point Thursday, and Caesars Palace said for every one bet they had taken on Golovkin, there were four on Alvarez.

"It's a real fight", Golovkin said this week.

Abel Sanchez, who has trained Golovkin at his gym in the San Bernardino Mountains outside Los Angeles since 2011, agrees. "So, I'm going to use this in my favor to train harder to give that extra push, and I'm going to use that anger intelligently in my favor".

As fans, we were happy because we get to see the fight again.

At 36 years old, Golovkin remains a ferocious operator who prides himself on a delivering a ruthless style of front-foot boxing that has seen him become one of the sport's most exciting names.

In August, William Hill's Nevada sportsbook took a pair of $50,000 bets on Alvarez, contributing to lopsided overall action on the underdog heading into fight weekend.

"I think this fight could be it".
