Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu says he's delighted to have captained the senior national team against Liberia in Tuesday's global friendly game.

A surprisingly strong Nigeria squad found themselves 2-0 up at half-time with Henry Onyekuru and Simeon Nwankwo scoring the goals.

All of the Liberia players - including Weah's former teammate, 48-year-old James Debbah - wore shirts bearing the message "Thank you King George" on the front.

The Super Eagles are set to tackle the senior national team of Liberia in Monrovia to celebrate President George Opne Weah, the only Africa to have won the prestigious World Footballer of the year crown.

Libera are ranked 47th of 54 African football nations and 158th in the world.

In the 88th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Liberia after Rotherham defender, Semi Ajayi was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

At least 188,000 people were without power in North Carolina and SC early on Friday. Rescue helicopters and trucks that can navigate floodwaters are also standing by.

Since the match, social media have been flooded with criticisms, with Nigerians blasting the Nigeria Football Federation and football legend Weah playing at age 51.

President Weah however described the Super Eagles of Nigeria as a model that he wants his country to model. For someone as exposed, experienced and educated, his constant appropriation of Liberia's platforms to fulfill his personal objectives is a disgrace.

The match is in celebration of Liberian President, former World Footballer of the Year George Oppong Weah.

Weah was the victor of the 1995 Fifa Player of the Year for his exploits with Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking with New Telegraph, Abia Warriors centre-forward, Sunday Adetunji, who made his debut match for the Super Eagles on Tuesday in the match against Liberia expressed his happiness for being one of the chosen players to represent the country in the global friendly and how he look forward to more of such opportunities.
