Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates scoring their first goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo thanked his Juventus team-mates for helping him through a dry spell after he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo.

His barren run had stretched beyond the 300-minute mark during a goalless first-half at the Allianz Stadium, but he did not have to wait long to make his mark after the interval.

Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari could only head a Juventus corner onto the left post and Ronaldo was waiting to volley in a rebound from less than two yards out.

The hosts went agonsingly close in the 38th minute when Sassuolo shot-stopper Andrea Consigli pulled off a stunning save to stop Pol Lirola from deflecting the ball into his own net.

In the only negative note for Juventus, midfielder Douglas Costa was sent off in stoppage time after spitting in the face of Sassuolo's Federico Di Francesco, from point-blank range.

Embroiled in a heated discussion with Sassuolo's Federico Di Francesco, the Brazilian winger proceeded to spit into the mouth of Di Francesco before walking away.

Juventus, chasing an eighth successive Serie A title, have 12 points, three ahead of Napoli.
