Texas Border Patrol agent suspect in serial murder case

One of the victims was a transgender woman, said Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz.

The bodies of two women were found earlier in the week, and another two were found early Saturday morning.

Authorities didn't disclose the victims' names or nationalities but said they may have been prostitutes. Numerous workers are also low-income women of color.

Texas authorities charged a US Border Patrol supervisor with murder following what they called a two-week serial killing spree that left four female sex workers dead and ended when a fifth woman escaped at a gas station and found help.

Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said at a news conference that the agent, Juan David Ortiz, was arrested early Saturday morning.

Another woman who is suspected to have been a fifth victim is said to have escaped from Ortiz and alerted authorities to him. Ortiz was captured in the parking lot of a Laredo, Texas, hotel after fleeing from state troopers.

"We feel that our efforts have gathered strong evidence against this killer".

"The manner in which they were killed is similar in all the cases from the evidence", said Alaniz.

It is said Ortiz is an intel supervisor for the U.S. Border Patrol in Laredo.it is also said he is an ex marine veteran.

"I extend my condolences to the families of the victims during this hard time". Cuellar said investigators believe heacted alone.

Deputies detained the agent following a two-week murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of two women the agent is accused of killing, KGNS reported on Saturday.
