It cost the Browns a chance at their first win since 2016.

"Our players, as I told them afterward, 'There is a good team in that (locker) room, '" Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "We didn't want to miss anything".

The Browns led the New Orleans Saints by two scores early in the fourth quarter but fell apart with one of the worst kicking performances in recent memory by Zane Gonzalez, who botched two extra-point attempts and two field-goal tries in a gutting loss.

But Gonzalez pushed his second extra-point miss of the game left, and the Saints got the ball back in great shape. The Browns offense has punted 3 times, missed a field goal, had a half end and turned it over on downs outside of a touchdown and field goal on the 8 possessions that followed a turnover this season. Williams returned the pick 22 yards with 4:57 left.

Gonzalez had what could have been a game-winning kick blocked in the final seconds. Gonzalez first missed an extra point with about a minute to play after a go-ahead touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor. The nine-play, 66-yard scoring drive was kept alive when strong safety Derrick Kindred was called for an illegal contact penalty that negated what would have been defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi's third third-down sack of the game. Carlson was 0-for-3 on field goal tries in a 29-29 tie with the Packers, missing wide right from 48, 49 and 35 yards.

Wide receiver Jarvis Landry offered a short four-word response when asked after the game on his message to Gonzalez.

The Saints (1-1), meanwhile, are evidently unsatisfied with how their season has begun.
