United States denies it offered Palestinians $5 billion to jump-start negotiations

Prior to ordering the mission's closure, the United States cut more than $200 million in aid to the Palestinians and canceled its support for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

"The US administration's positions have poisoned Palestinian-American relations". A few days later, it announced shutting down the office of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Washington.

Leahy, said Friday that officials from the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, notified Congress last week that the money can not be spent on peace and reconciliation programs bringing Israelis together with Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza - only on programs inside Israel for Jews and Palestinian Arab citizens.

Advocates had been waiting to hear about one final batch of US money for Palestinians - $10 million for programs that bring together Israelis and Palestinians for what the USA describes as "people-to-people reconciliation activities".

"It is not a peace process in the first place".

"Not ready to unveil it just yet", Heather Nauert, the spokesperson of the department, told reporters at a daily briefing on Thursday afternoon when asked if the new USA peace deal was ready to be presented.

As first reported by NPR, the USA also cut $25 million for Jerusalem hospitals providing Palestinians with medical care unavailable in the West Bank and Gaza, but is continuing to fund Palestinian security forces to assist Israel in preventing attacks in the West Bank. This "leak" which seems to have earned some credibility also speaks about a very key point of President Trump's plan which calls for building a "new Jerusalem" for the Palestinians from the city's surrounding villages and also keeps Palestinian security matters in Israeli hands.

The professor believed the disunity and division of the Arab world and the various conflicts in several Arab states represent one of the biggest regional weaknesses that paved the way for USA recurrent pro-Israel moves.
