The 33-year-old joined the Old Lady in a mega deal valued around KSh 13.9 billion from Real Madrid after spending nine seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has revealed that the mood among the players is more laid back now that Cristiano Ronaldo has left for Juventus.

'Obviously it's going to be a little different from having such a big player there, ' Bale said. His successor Julen Lopetegui therefore has high standards to maintain and needs to do so not just for the club, but also to vindicate his own decision to sign a contract with Real on the eve of the World Cup, which resulted in his sacking as Spain manager.

"I think that, contrary to what everybody else says, Madrid are more of a team without Cristiano, and now it's a little more hard than it was before - at least because of how I see football and my concept of this game".

Bale carried on his forthright views when it came to the panel who failed to select his stunning overhead kick goal (Ronaldo's overhead kick versus Juventus in the UCL quarterfinal won the award) among the finalists for the Goal of the Season. "As soon as I hit it I knew it was good".

Bale is somewhat relaxed when it comes to his image off the pitch and he doesn't give many interviews.

Former Barcelona defender, Dani Alves has claimed that Real Madrid are still a strong force without Cristiano Ronaldo.

The fact that they have conceded seven goals in those three games, points to defensive issues which were evident in last season's Champions League semi-final against Liverpool. Now he must walk the walk.
