Why Red Dead Online Isn't Releasing With Red Dead 2

Access to the finalized version is, of course, included for anyone who owns Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Red Dead Online release date has been set - or at least the release window has - and it's officially time to get excited for the multiplayer component of Rockstar's upcoming open-world western. As with most online experiences of this size and scale, there will inevitably be some turbulence at launch, which the devs see as an opportunity to work with their dedicated community to "share ideas, help us fix teething problems and work with us to develop Red Dead Online into something really fun and innovative".

Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on October 26th, 2018 for Xbox One and PS4.

The only way to play Red Dead Online will be to buy a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.

By the sounds of it, Red Dead Online will receive the bulk of Rockstar's post-launch support, much the way that Grand Theft Auto Online has.

An IGN exclusive interview with the Rockstar Games team indicates that the new mode will indeed use the same world and gameplay mechanics as "Red Dead Redemption 2" as a "jumping off point".
