It has been known since WWDC in June that iOS 12 will start supporting Google Maps on CarPlay.

This means that users who connect to their vehicle's infotainment system with their iPhone will no longer be locked to Apple Maps.

With the release of iOS 12 yesterday, Google Maps is the first third-party navigation app to release an update to support CarPlay.

First, update your iPhone to iOS 12 - this is essential for getting Google Maps to work on CarPlay.

Some of you Google Maps users might have noticed that the app is giving you recommendations about where to park once you reach your destination, while you are still driving.

In case your iPhone hasn't gotten iOS 12 yet, you can check for the update by opening the Settings app, scrolling down, tapping General, then Software Update.

Once done, go to Settings General CarPlay on your iPhone and select your auto. All you have to do is delete the existing Google Maps application from your iOS device and re-install it. You can search for a destination and see multiple route options, as well as get live information on traffic jams, congestion, accidents, and other delays along the route.
