I choose to go to the Moon with artists!

The trip is expected to take off in 2023 using the SpaceX Big Falcon Rocket, the most powerful rocket flying today. SpaceX expects Maezawa, 42, to be the first private passenger to make the journey that only two dozen astronauts have been on during the Apollo era that ended 46 years ago. Alongside, he also revealed plans to bring six to eight others, which he says will include painters, sculptors, photographers, musicians, film directors, fashion designers, and architects.

He added that he anticipates SpaceX's Starlink satellite system to be operational by then, which he said should aid in the broadcast, particularly when the moon is between the Earth and the spaceship.

The first space tourist on the moon will be a Japanese billionaire Yusaku of Maezawa.

Maezawa, whose net worth is estimated at $2.9 billion by Forbes, plans to work with the SpaceX team to select his fellow passengers.

Maezawa didn't immediately say who will be on his guest list for the spaceflight, but in response to a question from a reporter he said he'd consider inviting Musk.

Musk cautioned at the news conference that SpaceX is not certain about the 2023 timing for the moon tourism mission. Twenty-four NASA astronauts flew to the moon from 1968 through 1972, and only 12 of them strolled its dusty surface.

Speaking at SpaceX's headquarters outside of Los Angeles, he introduced Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire entrepreneur who founded the fashion label, Zozo.

There was a large range on the menu, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and a range of chapatis and sharing dips. The Duchess was also joined by her mother Doria Ragland and her husband Prince Harry .

"All right. Maybe we will both be on it", Musk said to cheers and applause.

"This has done a lot to restore my faith in humanity - that somebody's willing to do this", Musk said.

In the meantime, Maezawa and Musk have promised to update the public with the latest updates about the Moon mission in the coming years. The company has grown from its origins as a mail-order music album business, and now makes most of its money through its shopping website Zozotown, which is popular with younger domestic consumers.

Maezawa is not shy when it comes to spending his riches, as evidenced when he made headlines for shelling out a record $110.5 million for Jean-Michel Basquiat's 1982 painting of a skull a year ago.

"He is the bravest person and the most willing to do so, and he was the best adventurer I think", Musk said of Maezawa. He had set the previous auction record for a Basquiat, in 2016, when he paid $57.3 million. He said then that two people who know each other approached the company about a weeklong flight to the moon and back.

Maezawa has made a down payment on the trip, but declined to reveal how much he spent in total. Last month he told the New York Times he was overwhelmed by job stress. The 180-foot-long (55 m) spaceship can accommodate 100 people, but SpaceX wants to keep numbers way down on the lunar flyaround, Musk said.
