Here is your first look at Joaquin Phoenix in full Joker make-up

The video is set to The Guess Who's song Laughing, a sad tale about a broken relationship.

The Joker origin movie centers around the iconic arch nemesis of Batman and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen.

Last week, Todd Phillips posted an Instagram picture of Phoenix without makeup, giving us a small taste of what the Clown Prince of Crime would look like and fans have been eager to see the actor in full makeup. What are your thoughts on the first look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker?

Since it was initially announced that Joaquin Phoenix would be starring in a stand-alone noir Joker movie, it has been a mixture of "ugh more Joker" and "but it's Joaquin Phoenix so maybe there is hope". The makeup itself appears to be based off of a much more traditional clown style than we have previously seen for the Joker.

Phillips' Joker flick isn't the only one in the works. Leto and Nicholson's Jokers developed their unusual looks after a mishap at a chemical plant, while Ledger's take was more realistic, with actual war paint smeared on his face.

This take on the Joker appears to delve deep into his origin story, though the official canon hasn't settled on a single interpretation.

The forthcoming DC Comics film dives into the backstory of the Joker. Marc Maron (GLOW), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), and Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II) co-star in unknown roles.

A few seconds pass before clips of Phoenix dressed up as the Joker flicker into frame, cutting between the footage of him as the average-looking Arthur.

The tentatively titled Joker film is being helmed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover Series) and is set to hit theaters next year.
