More flooding feared for SC

After submerging North Carolina with almost 3 feet (1 meter) of rain, the storm dumped more than 6.5 inches (16.5 centimeters) of rain in the Northeast, where it caused flash flooding.

Speaking in Las Vegas, President Donald Trump said SC is in for a "tough one" as flood waters keep rising.

The state is sending inspectors into farm areas to assess the damage, but as of Wednesday they were waiting for flood waters to recede in many areas, the department said in a release.

Cooper said North Carolina's storm damage will be in the billions of dollars, but there was no way to make a more accurate estimate while flooding continues.

Wilmington, population 120,000, was still mostly an island surrounded by floodwaters, and people waited for hours Tuesday for handouts of food, water and tarps.
