How the FBI will investigate the allegations against Kavanaugh

Judge Brett Kavanaugh testifies during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on his nomination be an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, U.S., September 27, 2018.

"Judge Kavanaugh is a good man".

But the change of heart of Arizona senator Jeff Flake, a Republican who is retiring from the Senate this year, was pivotal in at least delaying the elevation of Judge Kavanaugh.

Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University and a research psychologist at Stanford University, alleges that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a small party in suburban Maryland when they were teens in the early 1980s. In a statement through his lawyer Friday, Judge said he would "answer any and all questions posed to him" if the Federal Bureau of Investigation requested an interview.

If confirmed to a lifetime Supreme Court appointment, Kavanaugh would consolidate conservative control of the nation's highest court and advance Trump's broad effort to shift the American judiciary to the right.

Flake said the committee heard "compelling testimony from Dr. Ford, as well as a persuasive response from Judge Kavanaugh", and he left the hearing yesterday with "as much doubt as certainty". "As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week", Trump said in a statement. Visibly angry and fighting back tears, Kavanaugh said the claims have "destroyed" his family and his "good name", and he blamed Democrats for turning his confirmation process into a "circus".

The New York Yankees won the series, winning 8-1, losing 11-0, and winning 11-1 to make up some ground on their rivals. Despite sitting on top for much of the season, the Boston Red Sox are expected to lose steam as the season progresses.

Following Ford's testimony, Kavanaugh vigorously denied the allegations before the committee and accused Democrats of launching a last-minute attempt to derail his nomination.

Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and staff surround Sen. Thom Tillis, Sen. Mike Crapo, and Sen.

Ramirez's lawyer, John Clune, said agents want to interview her and she has agreed to cooperate. The FBI, however, can not force interviews in background check investigations, or in criminal investigations for that matter.

President Trump called for an FBI probe Friday, after it became clear that Republicans did not have the votes to confirm Kavanaugh without first conducting a one-week FBI investigation.

Democrats who were opposing Trump's pick were pushing for the investigation.

A third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused Kavanaugh and Judge of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women in the early 1980s, among other accusations.
