Protester Joshua Richardson, 19, said he had no problem with the Opera House being lit up in the "right context" but said this illumination was "horrible".

Death threats, protests and a viral petition over the move has forced police to beef up security at the national landmark.

Thousands of Sydneysiders are apparently preparing for a night of protest at the Opera House over a six-minute Everest-related light display at the iconic venue.

"Racing NSW has made the decision to conduct the draw prior to the event to circumvent any security risks that may exist". The New South Wales premier overruled Opera House management to make sure Racing NSW were allowed to promote the Everest race through the projection of lights on to the side of the world heritage-listed building.

Today a petition with 235,000 signatures calling on the NSW Government and Racing NSW to stop turning the Opera House into a "promotional billboard" was delivered to NSW State Parliament.

During the interview last Friday Jones berated Herron, asking "who do you think you are?" repeatedly.

Enter The Chaser, who in the early hours of Tuesday morning drove down to Sydney Harbour and projected Jones' phone number along with the words "Advertise Here".
