Takeaways from the UN's Startling Climate Report

The Australian government has defied a recent climate change warning issued by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which urged nations to abandon coal by 2050.

At 1.5 degrees of warming, compared with pre-industrial levels, as much as 90 per cent of the world's coral reefs will die, and virtually all would be lost if temperatures rose two degrees, or about twice the increase so far. It notes that the contributions of glaciers to sea level rise in the present century can not be distinguished statistically.

As one of the countries hardest hit by climate change, Vietnam has been actively performing global commitments and exerting efforts to ease its impacts, on official has said. "So, even for regions or components of the climate system for which the difference between 1.5° and 2° doesn't represent a big threshold or tipping point, the impacts of climate change get considerably bigger". Its prognosis for the planet is grim: We may have as little as 12 years to act on climate change - to slash global emissions 45 percent - to reach this target. The added Carbon dioxide emissions can in no way be sustainable, not least in the land of the "Airpocalypse"; and nor is the economics.

It warns that the world is rapidly running out of time before catastrophic effects on the planet take place. More recently, he claimed that low temperatures disprove climate change.

Botswana and Namibia already know the challenges of droughts and floods. As the IPCC report shows, early and decisive action will not only reduce the risks of overshooting the Paris temperature targets, but also slow down the rates of change, making local adaptation easier to roll out. Trump responded to the United Nations climate change report with a hint of skepticism, saying he needed to inspect who "drew" the report, according to The Hill.

Melania Trump on #MeToo: Accusers Need to Show Evidence of Assault
Llamas said that some people might take the first lady's statement to mean that she doesn't actually support women. President Trump has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct and assault in the past.

Wendel Trio, director of CAN Europe, one of the signatories, said: "The sooner and the more we invest in the clean energy transition, the better for citizens and our economies". She described the collaboration among the authors from a variety of natural and social science field as an innovative aspect of the report, saying "different groups of scientists worked together as an interdisciplinary community to deliver society a message grounded in scientific evidence". But it wasn't necessarily new. It has said it has no intention of scaling back fossil fuel production because without coal, household power bills would soar. But they are not spread uniformly across the globe, and different parts of the world experience impacts differently.

Decades ago, Congress refused to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, which represented the first step toward meaningful global action on climate in 1992.

"This is one of the most important reports ever produced by the IPCC, and certainly one of the most needed", Hoesung Lee, the chair of the body, said at a press conference in South Korea on Monday.

All those initiatives and studies ended once Gov. Susana Martinez took office in January 2011.

Trump, who has previously called climate change a "hoax", was speaking on the White House lawn on Tuesday when he said the report "was given to me".
