Google Home Hub is Just Another Smart Display

The page notes that Google Home now allows users to "play at 2x speed", "play slower/faster", or "play at half the speed". "It also generates quick actions for important features across your home with immediate access to key experiences like turning on and off smart lights, viewing your cameras, and broadcasting messages to your other Google Home devices, Google notes on its blog".

Google Home v2.6 is rolling out to the Play Store now, so be sure to check and see if you've got the update waiting for you.

One swipe shows touchable controls and status of lights - both power and dimming - cameras, thermostats, sensors and any other compatible smart home devices you have. It's not the first of its kind, as Lenovo already has the Smart Display, which has an identical feature set. However, the Home Hub is something entirely different. That's one of the selling points here, because as I mentioned above, Lenovo's Smart Displays are larger, which is great if that's what you want. The Lenovo Smart Display is $199 and $249 for 8- and 10-inch models, so it's appropriate for the size.

The internal hardware is also different than other smart displays. Aside from four color options, some unique features and some that will arrive on the competing products soon. When configured, the Hub knows which room you're in and provides information on temperature and lighting as well. Of course, you can still use voice controls as well. Tell Google Home Hub that you'd like to see pictures of a person or people and it will automatically display them as a screensaver that doubles as a digital photo frame.

The Discover page shows recommended Assistant commands, Chromecast apps, and any available promotions while the Browse section aims to be a hub for movies, TV shows, and music Google thinks you'll be interested in. But the big difference, for now, I guess, is its new dashboard view, which mimics the new Google Home app on mobile. And that's exactly what the Google Home Hub is all about.
