No winning ticket matched all six numbers in Tuesday's drawing. Jackpots start at $40 million, and other prizes pay from $1 million to $2 million or more with a Megaplier.

Lottery officials increased the estimated jackpot for Tuesday night's drawing from $654 million to $667 million, making it the third-largest grand prize in US history.

The jackpot had swelled because nobody has won since July 24.

The $667 million is up for grabs in Tuesday's drawing.

To win the jackpot, tickets must match five white ball numbers plus the mega ball. The cash option, which is favored by almost all winners, is $380 million.

Now, for a bit of a spoiler: A jackpot ticket was not sold in California, California Lottery officials said late Tuesday.

THe jackpot, according to the AP, is expected to climb to $868 million.

While California didn't sell the Mega Millions jackpot, Lotto officials tweeted that a 5 of 6 victor was sold in San Francisco.

That honor goes to a 2016 Powerball jackpot, which clocked in at $1.586 billion (although it was shared by three winners). They chance of winning with one of the $2 tickets is a slim one in 302.5 million. There was no word as to how much that ticket would be worth from lottery officials. MA residents have the biggest taste for playing the odds, spending nearly $763 per year on lottery tickets, the study found.
