Gov. Greg Abbot on Tuesday issued a state disaster declaration for 18 counties affected by the flooding, including Llano County. Local officials have not released the identity of the person, but say many homes along the lake and rivers have been flooded. Initially, forecasters expected the river to rise to near-record levels Thursday, but modified their forecast to show the river dropping below flood stage instead.

Across the Colorado River, the Llano River experienced major historic flooding, with waters rising to just under 40 feet on Tuesday morning.

Fire officials in Austin have temporarily banned all boating along the city's waterways as heavy rain and flooding create unsafe conditions.

Marble Falls residents in some neighborhoods along the river were also told to evacuate.

The Llano River was just below 15 feet on Wednesday morning after cresting 24 hours earlier at nearly 40 feet.

Residents were evacuated from homes Tuesday in Kingsland and in nearby Marble Falls, which was being overwhelmed by the Colorado River. The bodies of three men were recovered and on Tuesday morning, one remained missing.

In addition to the evacuations, several school districts closed for the day and emergency personnel blocked access to more than 150 low-water crossings.

Officials shut down a bridge over the Colorado river after one person died.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said it responded to some 80 traffic accidents blamed on slick roads and poor visibility Tuesday morning. Forecasters urged those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas along the river to seek higher ground immediately. The collapsed bridge crossed the river in the city of Kingsland, located between Austin and Llano.

Water levels along the Llano River at Llano have subsided but are still well above major flood stage.
