CCTV footage showed vehicles moving from the consulate building to the nearby Saudi consul general's residence on October 2.

There was also disagreement over whether investigators would be allowed into the consulate-general's house.

In a statement, Bachelet welcomed the investigators being given access to the consulate, despite a two-week delay, and called on authorities of both countries to ensure that "no further obstacles are placed in the way of a prompt, thorough, effective, impartial and transparent investigation". The Saudi Arabia kingship was said to be very unhappy with his writings and moves to unite intellectuals and activists who supported democracy.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to say that journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed by mistake during an interrogation gone awry, according to multiple reports.

Trump said he has not sent the Federal Bureau of Investigation, stressing that he was not "American citizen".

The New York Times, citing a person familiar with the Saudi plans, reported the crown prince had approved an interrogation or rendition of Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia.

Graham said he is going to propose that the Senate "sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia" over Khashoggi's murder, arguing bin Salman has put President Trump and other US lawmakers "in a box" after the president sought friendly relations.

US Senator Lindsey Graham, pictured with fellow Republican Senator Marco Rubio in Washington in 2014, described Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a "wrecking ball".

The Saudi report would likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held accountable, CNN reported.

Tesla releases less expensive Model 3
Musk, 47, first unveiled the Model 3 to great fanfare in March 2016, pledging that it would start at $35,000 before incentives. The midrange Model 3 should be welcome news for those who can't afford to shell out upward of $60,000 for an electric vehicle .

Asked what Trump should do earlier in the day, Graham said, "It's up to him", adding: "I know what I'm going to do, I'm going to sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia". Trump himself suggested that Khashoggi, who had been critical of the Saudi regime, might have been a victim of "rogue killers".

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived Tuesday in Saudi Arabia for talks with King Salman over the disappearance and alleged slaying of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, who vanished two weeks ago during a visit to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. The top USA diplomat made no comments to reporters before meeting with MBS.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, left, meets with Saudi Arabia's King Salman in Riyadh. Turkish officials provided CNN with passport scans of seven men they suspect were part of the group.

Turkish sources have told MEE that they do not trust the Saudis, and expect them to hinder the investigation.

A Turkish official said on Tuesday the top Saudi diplomat's residence in Istanbul would also be searched. Earlier Monday, a cleaning crew with mops, trash bags and what appeared to be bottles of bleach walked in past waiting journalists. But last week, 22 senators triggered a USA investigation of whether human rights sanctions should be imposed over the disappearance.

Turkish police investigators entered the Istanbul consulate late on Monday.

Bachelet stopped short of calling for an independent global investigation, unlike Khashoggi's family, who late on Monday released a statement after a long period of silence.

The claim was strongly denied by Saudi Arabia, where a probe was ordered into the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi. "Our family is traumatized, and yearns to be together during this painful time", the statement said.
