BJP threatened Delhi petrol pump owners to go on strike: Kejriwal

Petrol pumps in Delhi will be closed from 6 am today till 5 am on Tuesday. However, when contacted Ola firmly denied having knowledge of any strike and said that there's no strike and that 'our app services are running smoothly'. "This may further dip by 40% after another two weeks", Nischal Singhania, president of Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association told The Sunday Guardian.

"Besides, farmers of the State will be affected as they use diesel as their primary fuel for major purposes from powering tractors, tillers and other implements to irrigation", Odisha Byabasahi Mahasangha general secretary Sudhakar Panda said.

The association has said that during the day-long protest, fuel pumps in Delhi will not purchase petrol, diesel or CNG from oil companies.

There are about 400 petrol pumps in Delhi which also have linked compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and all of them will be closed for almost 24 hours in protest, the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) said in a statement. The diesel price stood at Rs 80.94 per litre against Rs 80.36 for one litre of petrol.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association said customers were driving to neighbouring states Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to buy petrol and diesel as fuel prices there are cheaper. As a result fuel became more expensive in Delhi than the two bordering states. According to Singhania, the price difference has caused a sharp drop of 50-60 per cent in the sale of diesel and 25 per cent in petrol in Delhi during the current quarter.

The diesel price mark was Rs 75.36 per litre, a decrease of 12 paise in Delhi and for Mumbai, the price was Rs 79 per litre, a reduction by 13 paise.

He said the festival season is peak season for the sale of fuel due to social travelling by residents.

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) cut the prices of key domestic transport fuels - petrol and diesel - for the fifth consecutive day on Monday on lower global crude oil prices.

"Making an appeal to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal DPDA requested him to immediately reduce the Value-Added Tax on petrol and diesel and encourage commuters to buy euro VI fuel and save the livelihood of employees and owners of petrol pumps of Delhi and also save state's revenue loss".

"There are about 400 petrol pumps in Delhi which also have linked CNG pumps. People will give the BJP a befitting reply in the elections for continuously inconveniencing people through their dirty politics", Kejriwal tweeted.
