Qualcomm announced its latest mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 675 during its 4G/5G Summit 2018.

With its latest system-on-a-chip (SoC), Qualcomm says focused its attention on three areas: gaming, camera performance and artificial intelligence.

Following the unveiling of Qualcomm's latest Snapdargan 675, Xiaomi has announced that it will launch a smartphone based-on the same chipset soon.

Saudi minister says journalist Khashoggi-style murder can 'never happen again'
Saudi citizen Khashoggi has been a fierce critic of the leadership of Saudi Arabia, and in particular the Crown Prince. He said procedures would be put in place to "ensure that something like this can never happen again".

The Xiaomi announcement was a part of Qualcomm's summit, where Jain reiterated the company's rapid growth in India - from selling 100,000 devices in 2014 to almost 9.2 million in 2017.

The new chipset features the Kryo 460 CPU with two performance cores and six efficiency cores.

Compared to the Snapdragon 670, the new chipset can launch games 30 percent faster and is 35 percent faster when browsing the web according to Qualcomm. In a further effort to bring high-end gaming to the mid-range, the chip maker is working with games and game engines like Unity and Unreal to optimize for 600-series chipsets. To do so, the Snapdragon 675 uses a Spectra 250L image signal processor to support a triple camera - one that can seamlessly switch between telephoto, wide angle and super-wide angle for a 5x optical zoom - on either side of a phone. HD slo-motion recording and playback is offered at 480fps. On the connectivity front, it sports Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that offers up to 600Mbps download speeds and up to 150Mbps upload speeds. The new chipset supports a triple camera configuration in the front or back and can support numerous popular camera features of smartphones today, including enhanced portrait mode, 3D face unlock, wide angle, super wide angle, and telephoto up to 5x optical zoom. OEMs can also add camera sensors for low-light photography, portrait mode, and more. The chipset allows multiple voice assistants to work without draining the battery too much. Qualcomm has made the Snapdragon 675 available for a wide range of partners, and we can expect to see devices fueled by it during the first quarter of 2019. Stay tuned for updates.
