See it! Hunter’s Moon 2018

The October Full Moon gets its name from game fattening up this time of year before winter, and the Hunter's Moon comes just a few weeks before the Leonid Meteor Shower.

The full moon that appears during the month of October is also known as Hunters Moon. That's also the reason it will look orange to you earlier in the evening.

The full moon appeared on Wednesday night and lit up the night sky with its incredible brilliance. "Since the harvesters have reaped the fields, hunters can easily see the fattened deer and other animals that have come out to glean (and the foxes that have come out to prey on them)". Things changed slightly in 2018, with the Harvest Moon falling on september 24, just a few days after the autumnal equinox.

Phases of the moon are caused by the changing angle of the sun as the moon orbits the Earth.

An Indian national named Merceli Thomas is now under detention in Sri Lanka for his alleged involvement in the plot. Sirisena's security was beefed up after the disclosure of the plot.

The Orionid meteor shower, containing debris from Halley's Comet, is still ongoing over the coming weeks, and will be visible in parts of the sky not illuminated by the Hunter's Moon.

"The Moon will appear full for about three days centered around this time, from Tuesday morning through Thursday night", NASA says.

Getting your hands on a piece of the Moon is pretty darn hard for most of us. The same report informs that the moon is named thus because it is believed that the hunters, during the month of October, hunted and killed deers in the autumn moonlight.
